Hi,
I have to order a new workstation in the beginning of dec.
I want the Powermac in a top config with the 30' Display.
Now I wonder to wait the release of the 8core system for two reasons:
If the price will be equal to the actuall one of the quad 3Ghz: Fine, I ll buy the mac pro with clovertown
If the clovertown system will be much more expensive than the actuall 3 ghz, maybe the 3 ghz will get a little bit cheaper. So i will buy the 3 Ghz system.
Should I wait to Jan or Feb ? ( The release in November just a rumor :( )

anyone else getting a little bit fed up of apples lawsuits?
I'm sure Apples getting fed up of all their competitors continuing to copy their products or piggyback off the work Apples done on iOS.

Luckily I get .Mac for free, but $99 is very expensive when compared to using flcker, gmail, youtube, etc.

Are the little glowing boxes hard drives? If so, how much space do you have sitting there?
Yep all of them are hard drives, i have 2TB in each one and then a RAID-0 with 2x2TB. I keep most for back ups of Photos, Music and Movies and OS clones (i'm fairly meticulous with back ups and having them on more than just one drive.but most duplicated clones are taken offline and stored after back up).
One is used as my external iTunes library as there isnt enough space on the SSD and the others are free space, diagnostic drives, work drives used to do audio/video or photo storage/editing

I'm 32, still love driving, go to empty parking lots in winter to drift my Subaru around for fun (freaked out my girlfriend when I did it to her then brand new, sub-1000 km Kia Soul last January, which parking-brake drifted like a champ, even pulling a donut around another car, to much screaming and freaking out from the owner/passenger).
In the summer, I rip through country back roads for the kick of it, though nowadays, it's on my Harley rather than in my long lost loves (the 2.2L VTEC integra or the WRX) often leaving in the cold air of dawn to come back as dusk settles over the fields around my house.

That looks great! I too am thinking about getting the Belkin Grip Vue. My BestBuy currently has all the colors in stock. Looks like the night sky is the hot seller there.
Question. Just how big of deal is it that the volume and sleep buttons are covered? Just looks like it would be sort of a pain in the butt to push through the material to get to and then push the buttons, or is it less squishy than it looks??
The volume buttons are a little stiff, though the sleep/wake button is perfect. I'm hoping the volume buttons will loosen up a bit over time. I can adjust them pretty easily with my pointer finger when held in my right hand, but I can't do it very well with my thumb when holding in my left hand.
For what it's worth, I think part of the reason for the stiff feel of the volume buttons is the actual angled placement of the volume buttons on the iPod touch itself. They are awkward to press sometimes as it is, even without a case, so a case just exacerbates this. Even with that I still like the case a lot. And I do believe the material around the volume buttons will break in over time and become easier to press.
I Also just ordered a black Grip Vue (Tint) from Belkin's website ($24, free shipping). Basically the Grip Vue, but the semi see thru type , in a smokey black. I'll put up some pics when I get it.

one of the key differences between the xbox and zune. is that microsoft only had to contend with 2 other players in the video game indistry. the ipod maybe top. but there are hundred of other companies to battle first just to reach second place. and also phone companies. spending money maynot help them like in the case of the xbox.

It's clear Apple need a 'consumer' (ie. Dell level) level monitor. It would make sense, as a 17' is seen as too small by most, to release a 19' model (a size that is differentiated from the current line up and in colours that match the white and black consumer models).
Personally I don't see Apple doing this soon despite this rumour so I'm getting one of these to match my black macbook:

OK, I'm hardly a programmer (PHP doesn't really count) but that's the exact same description that I've heard applied to the description of what it takes to vectorize a program (i.e. make it Alti-Vec optimized) [that and the process of making loops that can be unrolled]. So I've got to ask, is there some difference between those two concepts? If not, it sure seems like we would have a lot more multi-core enabled apps out there already..

However, vectorization *tends* to work on chunks of data that are not dependent on each other, but simliar. Say, you have four integers, and you need to double them all. You could vectorize that, and it'd be a lot cheaper that spawning additional threads to do each multiplication.
However, take Word for example. I don't know how it works, but let's assume that the main editor is one thread, and the real-time spell/grammar checker is a separate thread. Those two tasks are not at all the same, so you couldn't vectorize that, but you could very easily multi-thread it.
To bring it back to my cake example, let's say you had to crack four eggs. It would make sense to vectorize that, crack all four at the same time. But then let's say you have to crack one egg, pour 500ml of milk, and measure 250g of flour. You wouldn't vectorize that, you'd multi-thread it.
